Richelieu Lives part deux

A home run from QandO.
From the perspective of a European, this makes perfect sense, of course. After all, who doesn't want more of a say in the world? It has been a historic fact-of-life that France engages in balance of power politics the way children play parents against each other....not out of any overarching moral principle, but as a utilitarian cost/benefit game.

He quotes Thomas Friedman, NYT.
France wants America to sink in a quagmire there in the crazy hope that a weakened U.S. will pave the way for France to assume its "rightful" place as America's equal, if not superior, in shaping world affairs.

I think the term is megalomaniac. There's a site dedicated to the power crazed. They are comic book characters so France fits right in there. The problem is finding the category. The choices are World Conquerors and Would-Be Despots, Crime Lords and Cartel Leaders, or The Merely Power-Mad.

Hmmm
