Afghans crave democracy. More than 9 million have registered to vote for Karzai or more than a dozen other presidential contenders on Oct. 9. They have not been cowed by lawlessness or beaten down by poverty.

More aid for Africa promised and (subtitle) "Canada plans to help set agenda". What happened to "Canada doesn't do Africa" scrawled on the memo begging for increased help in Rwanda just before the massacre?
