Blair signs Olympic Truce

Historic moment as Blair signs Olympic Truce.

Organizers of the truce - inspired by the cease-fire between warring city-states during the ancient games - say more than 450 world leaders and international personalities have signed the initiative.

Statement of World Personalities text
Official List of World Personalities who signed.

SOME NOTABLES WE NOTED

HEADS OF STATE
22 including, you knew it, Bill Clinton
(Along with Iran and Syria. Twenty-three, now you count Blair.)
Notably missing was Yassir Arafat. Despite there not being a Palestine, nor likelihood with him in charge, the terrorist (sorry -- Romantic Revolutionary) -- isn't a truce kinda guy. Especially for civilian events.

SPEAKERS AND MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENTS, MINISTERS, HIGH OFFICIALS OF INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS, OTHER PERSONALITIES
K. Annan Secretary General, United Nations
(The Jesse Jackson of the Multilateralist crowd.)
V. Barkowski Designer & Founder, Mia Zia
(No clue, but where was the Body Shop?)
A. Ertegun Co-Chairman & CEO, The Atlantic Group, USA
(As in records. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame fame.)
R. Khan Journalist, CNN
(No leftwing group would leave home without CNN coverage.)
A. Moussa Secretary General, Arab League
(Who isn't even going to go there on the Sudan issue.)
J. Schlesinger International Journalist
(Who won't give his first name, apparently. We know you're hiding, Jim.)
J. Solana EU's Secretary General/High Representative
(At least they aren't calling him Foreign Minister anymore)
A. Soler Director, Cadbury Schweppes, Canada
(The candy and beer voters and Pacifist Canada.)
Otto Zich Chairman, Sony Europe
(We are the world! We are the children..)

RELIGIOUS LEADERS AND OTHER PERSONALITIES
His Holiness the Pope John-Paul II
(19th down)
G. Bizos, Counselor to President N. Mandela
(Who knew Mandela needed a counselor?)
Vlassios Phidas, Professor
(No clue. But it explains the "other personalities" and makes the Religious list longer.)
His Grace Bishop Eberhardt Renz, President of the World Council of Churches
(No leftwing list would be without the World Council of Churches that doesn't represent any churches. For good reason. Longer title than the Pope.)

Then there's the category :
PERSONALITIES FROM THE ARTS AND LETTERS
Harry Belafonte
(War is wrong except for the war my friend Fidel wages on his citizens.)
Denis Glover
(Not to be confused with Danny Glover,American Black Activist railing against a system that generously rewards him for lack of talent.)
Roger Moore Actor
(A surprise there, but he's getting old and, well...)
Peter Ustinov Actor
(He makes most things respectable)

Notably missing:
Barbra Steisand but she is probably busy speaking at the Kennedy School of Government. (No questions! Absolutely no questions!!)
Robert Redford
(No cause he doesn't support as long as it's liberal and leaning left. But a truce when his side stands a chance? )
Rock stars
(The declaration had no bounce. Besides, it was long and kinda hard to read.)
Usual Hollywood stars
(Who have $5000 box seats and you think would want the publicity.)
