Having just spent three weeks in the US, I was struck once again by how similar and yet how very different that country is from Britain. The thing that really hits you between the eyes is the optimism.
She noted several anti-Bush books. "What madness is this, where fashionable books overtly promote hatred?" Maybe because of the publishers? Two of them she had noticed were from British publishing conglomerate Pearson, two books were from Avalon (one of which was in conjunction with The Nation magazine). One book on her list was from a New York Times-owned title, and another from Viacom (CBS news).
