Having it both ways

Sydney Morning Herald from a Guardian story has it both ways.

On the one hand, Russian soldiers responded to the circumstances - a terrorist bomb exploding and terrorists shooting escaping children - was also a disorderly 'rescue operation' for which the Russians should apologize, debase and demoralize themselves by offering a public inquiry that will slow down a reaction to the terrorist attack, and give a full explanation to the EU as demanded by Ben Bot, the clumsy Dutch foreign minister. The only ones given the benefit of doubt are the terrorists who triggered the explosions "by accident."
Many of the hostages were killed when a wave of explosions was triggered by the terrorists, possibly by accident, on Friday. The blasts tore through the gymnasium roof and debris rained down on the hostages. Soldiers stormed the school when the terrorists began firing on fleeing hostages. At least 336 people, about half of them children, died.

AND,
One source told Russian media: "The Colonel said, 'No one will leave this place alive' and told the other rebels that all of them would either blow themselves up or fire back to the last bullet." Critics believe the Kremlin is peddling the theory of a split between the terrorists to divert attention from the shambolic rescue operation.

Critics include all the Leftwing media quoting each other. Anonymously, of course.
